Case Study 4: The Atheist and the Muslim

Debrief

Prepare for a class discussion by responding to the questions below on your own paper.

1. Though Austin and Humza talked more about their differences than their similarities, they both felt like the dialogue was worthwhile. Why?

2. The purpose of dialogue is to seek understanding. What understanding do you think Humza and Austin gained about each other by the end of their conversation?

3. At the end, Austin says, “We all have to live together” and  Humza says, “We should live in as much harmony as possible.” In your opinion, what does this reveal about the motivations they brought to the conversation?
